James Spencer Taylor

(1921 - 2010)

James Spencer Taylor was a very talented 20-21st Century English artist working in a variety of media over a long and distinguished career, as a college lecturer, graphic designer and a landscape painter. Most extensively developed were his landscape water colours, oil paintings, and sketches in the latter 30-40 years of his life. Hundreds have been sold as originals or as limited edition, signed prints. Earlier and rarer work involved print making, wood engravings, etching, and fine book binding, often using his personal handcrafted tools.

His work has been exhibited internationally, and is held in a variety of places, including the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, and in the Queen's Private Collection. Work is generally signed J. S. Taylor. He was listed in "Who's Who in Art: Biographies of Leading Men and Women in the World of Art in Britain Today".

Much of his life was shared with his wife Joyce Barbara Taylor (née Haffner)(1921-2006), who was also an accomplished artist specializing in needlework (eg modern ecclesiastical altar frontals, abstract scenes), and later drawing and painting flower and still life subjects (eg, dolls in scenes).
