Graphic Design & Book Arts

The artist was a Lecturer in Graphic Design at Bolton College of Art from 1948-80. Alongside teaching he had a very productive career producing designs for cards, posters, books covers and endpapers, napkin rings and panels. His work was exhibited widely, including on the Crafts Center of Great Britain world tour as part of the 1953 Commonwealth Exhibition. Commissioned ecclesiastical books were produced for many churches throughout the UK. A bound book is in the Queen's Private Collection, and six personal book binding tools and six bound leather books, hand-tooled with gold leaf by the artist, are held by the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
